Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated - Epsilon Theta Zeta Chapter put a different spin on its annual Debutante-Beautillion Scholarship Program this year. Even though the chapter was unable to hold the presentation, students still took part in raising funds and workshops to assist with the preparation of their postsecondary education. Participating students hailed from King’s Fork, Lakeland, Nansemond River and Western Branch high schools. The students, along with their mentors and parents, worked for more than six months raising money for their scholarships. Over $18,000 was raised collectively in scholarship funds.
Over the last 49 years, the Suffolk chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority has continually aided high school seniors with fundraising and professional development. The sorority consistently pushes the participants to maintain good merit, grades and behavior while pursuing his or her studies and professional careers. The program is one of the many activities sponsored by the sorority to raise funds for the annual scholarship fund, which is used to help worthy young people meet their financial obligations while enrolled in institutions of higher education.
Kaila Barnes and Garrett Williams were named queen and king of the program, and will be crowned at next year’s presentation. The Epsilon Theta Zeta Chapter thanks the mentors, parents, and donors who assisted the program participants.
